Accompong Maroon Village, an indigenous and sovereign community in Jamaica’s Cockpit Country, has suffered catastrophic devastation from Hurricane Melissa. The Category 5 storm completely destroyed nearly all structures, leaving families devastated with loss of personal
items and without shelter, power, or water. Every power line and light post was brought down by the storm, farms and livestock have been completely lost, and the community is now without access to clean water, as rainwater harvesting systems were destroyed along with
rooftops.
I have chosen for my energy and love to support the Maroon people. This village is my priority and has been my family’s heart beat for over 11 years.
